For a safe and enjoyable park visit, the following rules and regulations apply, including:
- No over night camping is permitted. However, visitors are welcome to stay out through the night and early morning hours for night-sky viewing opportunities. You may bring blankets, sleeping bags, chairs, food, beverages, etc. For places to stay, see the following page: Places to Stay.
- Use red-filter flashlights: The Since the Keweenaw Dark Sky Park is dark when outside of the parking areas, we do recommend bringing a flashlight. It is recommended to bring a red-filtered flashlights only, so as to not disturb the vision of other visitors. White light can ruin the viewing opportunities presented at the park.
- Pets: Dogs are allowed in the Night Sky Public Viewing Area. However, they must remain on leash and stay out of protected areas. And they are not allowed in the public buildings at the Keweenaw Mountain Lodge — the headquarters of the park.
- Food, Wildlife, and Trash: Food scraps invite wildlife scavengers. Store food in a vehicle to prevent damage to your equipment. No dishwashing is permitted in the restrooms or at the hydrants. Please place trash, accumulated during your stay, in the appropriate receptacles. Use the Leave No Trace mantra during your time at the park.
